Herbalism

Northwest Field Herbalism     May & June

This 8-week class will cover local herbs with both a slide show and a field trip (or two) to identify the potent herbal medicines that grow in our area.  We will organize class around body systems, as well as specific remedies, giving formulas and making the medicines in class.  The types of medicines we will cover include teas, tinctures, oils and salves, all easily made and stored for family use.  We will use Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Rockies, by Linda Kershaw, as our text.  You will love this book!

Each student will receive a notebook and lots of handouts, and will be expected to work on a personal study project related to a favorite plant.  This is a very practical class, with case studies from my 40 years of experience.  We will discuss plants from root to shoot to aromatherapy to homeopathics to schools of thought to gardens.  If you already know a lot, you will be a happy addition to the discussion.  If you are a beginner, you may be overwhelmed by the amount of information, but I give lots of resources and ways to continue studying.

Cost is $120, which includes all materials, and many take-home medicines, a notebook and very useful handouts.  Payment may be made as you go, or at the first class.  It starts on Saturday, May 1, at 2pm and runs for 3 hours until 5 pm.  We will not meet the weekend of Memorial Day, and reconvene on June 5, same times, for the rest of June.

We meet at my classroom space in Post Falls, 2430 W Seltice Dr.  This is the Mobile Corral, and our meeting is in the back of their lot, upstairs in the old two-story shop building.  You access it off McGuire, turning in to the second driveway on the right.
